About

HerbalKetoScience

HerbalKetoScience is a student-led research initiative exploring the synergistic effects of the ketogenic diet and traditional herbs on human health—specifically their impact on key blood biomarkers related to inflammation, metabolism, and aging.

This project aims to contribute meaningful insights to the growing field of nutritional science and integrative health, with a focus on safe, natural strategies for improving long-term wellness.

About Herbal Keto Science

Our Mission

We are on a mission to investigate how ancient herbal remedies can complement modern nutritional strategies—like the ketogenic diet—to promote healthier aging, reduce chronic disease risks, and optimize key health indicators such as:

Blood glucose and insulin resistance

Cognitive clarity and energy levels

Cholesterol and lipid profile

Inflammation markers (CRP, IL-6, TNF-α)

Liver and kidney function

About the Researcher

I’m Nitalie Biswal, a junior undergraduate student at UCLA on the pre-med track, with a passion for biomedical research, molecular biology, and nutrition science.

This year-long project was inspired by personal observations—especially seeing how my father and many others in our community have adopted ketogenic diets and natural herbs like turmeric and ghee to improve their health and manage chronic conditions. My goal is to combine sciencedata, and tradition to uncover new, evidence-based approaches to health optimization.

What We’re Studying

Our research focuses on middle-aged and older adults following a ketogenic lifestyle, with the addition of specific herb like: Turmeric, Ginger, Cinnamon, Ghee, Ashwagandha.

We collect data and conduct regular blood tests (where feasible) to track progress and trends over time.

Why It Matters

With chronic conditions like Type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular disease on the rise, there’s an urgent need for holistic solutions rooted in both science and tradition.

HerbalKetoScience exists to: Build a foundation for future clinical and academic studies. Inform the public with accurate, research-based health insights. Provide a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration. Inspire young scientists to explore integrative health research

Follow the Journey

Area of Research

01

Biomarker Response to Ketogenic Nutrition

We study how a high-fat, low-carb ketogenic diet affects key blood biomarkers—such as glucose, insulin, cholesterol, triglycerides, and CRP (inflammation markers)—in middle-aged and older adults. Our goal is to document measurable health improvements through real-world data.

02

Herbal Synergy in Metabolic Health

This area explores how specific herbs—like turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, garlic, and green tea—interact with ketogenic metabolism to enhance fat burning, reduce oxidative stress, and improve cardiovascular and cognitive function.

03

Cognitive and Neurological Benefits

We examine the combined effects of ketones and nootropic herbs (e.g., Bacopa monnieri) on brain function, memory retention, and focus. This area is especially relevant for aging individuals seeking neuroprotection through dietary strategies.

04

Personalized Nutritional Interventions

Using self-tracking and small sample cohorts, we study individual variability in response to herbal-ketogenic interventions. This helps identify what combinations work best for different metabolic types, age groups, or health conditions.

05

Longitudinal Diet Monitoring & Weekly Reporting

We design and track year-long lifestyle experiments, collecting weekly data on diet, herbs consumed, physical activity, and emotional wellness. These observations allow for a deeper understanding of habit formation, sustainability, and the real-life effectiveness of this approach.

06

Digital Health, Data Science & Public Sharing

We integrate data visualization and digital storytelling by publishing reports on our website. This area explores how online platforms can support community science, transparency, and health education, especially through the lens of herbal and ketogenic research.

Help Me, Help Yourself

This project started with a simple idea: what if we could take ancient herbal wisdom and combine it with cutting-edge nutritional science to truly improve lives? As a student researcher, I’m dedicating a year to exploring how the Herbal Keto lifestyle can impact real people—starting with my own family, community, and hopefully, you.

By following along, sharing your journey, or even just learning something new—you’re not only helping yourself, but helping me build meaningful, publishable research that can guide others, inspire future studies, and contribute to a healthier world.
